    Lipoma

  • Fairly painless lipoma removal with IV sedation.

I felt a bump in the back of my neck that a doctor confirmed to be a lipoma. He said it was not dangerous if it did not grow, so I left it alone for a year. I had another doctor check it a year later and he recommended it be removed, so I agreed. It did not hurt me in any way, just felt like it didn't belong.

    Surgery Experience:

I was given ID sedation, which in all honestly felt exactly like general anesthesia. However the doctor told me that I was fully conscious during the operation, and I was flirting with the nurses as he was cutting me up. I have zero recollection of this - I remember lying down, asking the doctor to warn me before he started the sedation, but I have no idea whether he did or not. The next thing I remember is being rolled out of the OR and asking the doctor to quiz me to see if I was awake. He told me to recite the numbers of PI. I got about 6 numbers in and asked him the same question.

    Post Surgery:

Recovery was fairly painless, my neck was sore the first day and hurt whenever I laid on my back. I was prescribed painkillers which helped me sleep and I enjoyed a few days off of work. However the skin of my neck felt completely numb below the incision and I was worried about that, but I was told it was normal and the feeling returned to me in a few days. I had four stitches which were removed a week afterwards and I have a minor scar there.
